The first time I ever played limited was back in 2006. It was the evening before the Dutch National Championships. I qualified by playing my beloved Heartbeat of Spring deck in a standard qualifier in Zwolle. I thought it might be a good idea to at least do one practice draft before I draft at the Dutch National Championships. So I did a Coldsnap practice draft, and let me tell you, I hated it.
The problem with limited at that time, was that you were forced to play 2 mana vanilla 2/1 creatures. The classic Grizzly Bears and Hill Giants that were the regulars of every limited format back then. And I just thought that that was very boring. The practice actually paid off, I did 3-0 my Coldsnap draft at the Dutch National Championships. With that boring vanilla 2 mana 2/1 in my deck. Couldn’t say I enjoyed playing that draft.
When you, Peace Strider, were released in 2011 I immediately added you to my Peasant cube. The explanation was simple. If I want to play a Hill Giant, it should at least gain me 3 life. You were and still are my uncommon version of Loxodon Hierarch. You were and still are my explanation why I didn’t like normal limited, and loved cube. Because in cube the worst Hill Giant you are going to get, at least gains you 3 life. And for that, I love you.
With love,
Hanjo
