You were printed in 1995. That was a long time ago. All I can find about you, is that some one in 2015 had a good result with one copy of you in their Grixis Delver deck at a Grand Prix. I didn’t know about you until you showed up in the MTGO Vintage Cube list. It happened somewhere in 2023. Suddenly the world found out about you, about how insanely strong you are.
This week at our local Cube night we played my Klein Power. I drafted a red black midrange deck. You know, the usual bangers: Thoughtseize, Dissmember, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Fable of the Mirror Breaker, Broadside Bombardiers, Pyrogoyf. Quite a lot of LSV his top 50 cards, but no power. I played 4 rounds, went 3-1, which feels like a good result for a non-powered deck. You know which card won me the most games? You, Fire Covenant. You are no top 50 card, but you sure act like one.
You won me games I had no place winning. And I don’t always like Power Cube. I don’t like the variance the true power can put on games. But I don’t mind you putting on that variance. Because it truly is amazing that you’ve stayed hidden for so long. You have always been there, we all just never knew. I love it that Magic is the type of game where there are so many people obsessing about it, and yet still, sometimes, we all miss something completely. Sometimes even for over 25 years. Except Paolo Cesari that is.
