No one can deny your power. You have won 2 standard Pro Tours in totally different eras of our beautiful game: Pro Tour Honolulu 2006 and Pro Tour Brussels in 2015. I personally made a gauntlet of 16 different standard decks from the 2005/06 standard season and I copied Mark Herberholz his Gruul list. You are also in 6 of my Cubes. I love playing with you, you offer such fun gameplay.
You promote Magic as it was intended: combat. I personally suck at the combat step, I remember my friend Timo back in the day always dramatically shaking his head when I made an error in the combat step. I’m a control player at heart, my motto used to be: winning is the logical result of not losing. But I’ve been training the combat step for years and years now with the help of Cube. In 2025 I did 44 drafts with at least 4 people. 27% of those decks were control decks and 34% were aggro decks. I’ve embraced agro, and I’ve embraced you.
You are a perfect agro card for me. To me you feel like playing agro with training wheels, because you make the combat step easier for me. Even just the threat of not letting my opponent block makes them want to attack, because if I remove the best blocker, the other is useless so they rather just crack back. There is so much depth to your seemingly underwhelming ability. You can dominate games that only players who have played with you will understand.
Last month I was playing against my brother. We did a rotisserie with whole boosters (all boosters open on the table, pick a whole booster at the time) with 2 of his friends. I drafted a banging boros deck with 3 copies of you, Frenzied Goblin. You did what you do best. You frustrated the hell out of my brother, he felt like he had no say in combat, like he couldn’t even get the chance to compete. And with your help we just ran through on a road to victory.
