Most competitive players never see the commander only cards. A lot of competitive players dislike the commander only cards. I personally don’t care where a card comes from, I just like a card for what the card is. And I like you, Roon. But I do like you in a different context than those Commander players do. I like you in my cost reduction emblem Alles-2 Cube.
You become a 3 mana 4/4, which are already very good stats, with a free banger ability. I like finding these gems that are unknown to my players. Back in the day I was a grinder, so my Magic friends are also (old) grinders, competitive players. They don’t play Commander, so they all have never met you, Roon, even though you’ve been printed 13 years ago. I like introducing some of the really cool ones to them, in this new context.
I think it is a delicate balance. You are wordy. The Commander cards I play in this Cube are wordy. I have to balance that with nostalgia cards my players know like Forbidden Alchemy, or very clean cards like Inspiration or Master of Diversion. But in the right dose I can introduce you, Roon, and your Commander only wordy buddies to them in this Cube. And they love you guys. But there is one person in particular who loves you very much Roon.
My friend Tristan has played this Cube now 3 times. Each time at one of the Cube Invitational tournaments I organize. And he drafted you each and every time. He fell in love with you the first time he played you. The first invitational he played, he lost the semi-finals. His second invitational he lost the finals. His third invitational he beat me in the finals. His track record is very good drafting and playing you. And seeing his face light up playing with you, makes my cupido heart jump: another match made on the battlefield.
