I remember when I first looked at a list playing you. I was at first only playing Standard when I started Magic tournaments back in 2003, because that was the format at local FNM’s back then. But I was consuming everything Magic had to offer, as one does when they are fully invested in this beautiful game. At first when I saw the blue and black Psychatog decklists in Extended I didn’t get you. But my brother explained you very well: you could do everything. You are a threat that control decks had to answer, you are a roadblock vs agro decks they couldn’t get past, you dominated the midgame vs midrange decks. You were the perfect creature at any stage of the game because you could trade recourses for tempo, and blue always had the option to have an abundance of resources. Just there and then I fell in love with you. 

The first PTQ I ever played was with you, my dear Psychatog. It was an Extended PTQ and I’ve brewed up a crazy list with 4 Isochron Scepter and 4 Cunning Wish to have acces to all these silver bullets. We didn’t do so well, I wasn’t a very talented or experienced Magic player so piloting you was a big challenge. We did win a couple of matches, but certainly lost some aswell. But playing that first PTQ together with you, and watching you win Pro Tour Los Angeles 2005 together with Antoine Ruel, sparked a love for Magic in me that never faded. I realised that I could never stop learning in this game, because it is infinitely complex. 

I was sad, maybe a bit angry even, to see your downfall by the hand of Tarmogoyf. It took me a long time to appreciate Tarmogoyf card because for a long time I have been bitter about what it did to you. I have the same relationship with Phyrexian Dreadnaught, because in PreModern it is better at doing what you are good at. I would be more inclined to play PreModern if you would be actually Tier 1 (my friends play quite a lot of PreModern). But luckly I am a Cube enjoyer, and Cube is your place to shine. I play 2 copies of you in my Hanjo Masters #1 and you are so amazing there. There you are a perfect fit. There you do why I love you. There you do what you do best, dominate games, doesn’t matter at what stage of the game or what the opponent is playing.
