For a long time Magic Players have heard of your legendary status. You were unheard of when you were printed, an absolute power house. You are still a power house in the Old School format, and rightfully so. There have been great articles about your rich history. My history with you is Cube, and one specific Cube at that. You are in my 2009 Power Cube.
Back in 2009 is when I was first introduced to Cube. My friend Tim built a Power Cube, I built my Peasant Cube and from that moment Cube was all we played in our playgroup. A couple of years ago I was being a real boomer reminiscing to some youngsters how great Power Cube used to be. Now everything is just cracked, back then the best thing you could do with a Black Lotus was play Thran Dynamo turn one, maybe an Ajani Vengeant. So I got the simple idea, how would Power Cube look in 2009 if I would build it now. 2009 was a perfect cutoff point, 10 fetchlands and Goblin Guide, no Jace the Mindsculptor.
I went through my collection and gathered options. Then I did a whole lot of Scryfall searches and bought/proxied any realistic option. I brought this pile to my friends and presented them a pile of green cards, stating I would want to cut like 20 cards from this pile for this Cube. After a lot of discussion we would have cut those cards and the next time I would bring the next section. After a couple of weeks I had a finished list and to be honest, it’s been amazing. A couple of tweaks here and there, but a really fun list and one of the favourite Cubes in our playgroup.
Last weekend we drafted this 2009 Power Cube. You, Juzam Djinn, are in this Cube. You are so iconic, and I think that your legend is what made us choose you for the list. Yes you are perfectly playable, but for example we didn’t add Plague Sliver to the Cube. We didn’t expect you to excel or anything. Funny thing though, my dear friend Frank drafted this black and white midrange deck with you as his bigger creatures. And after the draft he stated, pleasantly surprised, that you were actually very good. Even back in 2009 you were still a Cube banger.

PS. I personally definitely felt your power in my match vs Frank. You prevented me from casting my Wildfire. You are still a banger, you legend you.
