Yesterday I lost the finals of my Cube Invitational to my friend Tristan. I really wanted to win that Cube Invitational, trying to get my bragging rights of winning more Cube Invitationals than my dear friend and co-writer Danny. We both won 3. But I didn’t and I was so bumped out because of that because it just felt in reach. Because of you.
You are one of the recent additions to the cube we were playing for the top 4 draft: my Hanjo Masters 5 cube. The new lessons from the Avatar set are a great addition to this cube. I wrote about this before in my love letter to Origin of Metalbending. I had never played with you before, but you were the reason why that win felt in reach.
I drafted a Temur Elementals deck. I had 2 Wavesifters and 2 [/c]Mulldrifter[/c]s in my deck, my late game was great. Tristan had a mostly white and a bit of green Heroic deck. He was making a couple of very big creatures trying to win with them. In the first game I won because of you. Resetting 2 of those big creatures while drawing 2 cards gave me the window to take over the game. In the third game I had you in my hand. And the hope you gave me, made me fall in love with you. It felt amazing to be so close to a win again. I can’t wait for my next Cube Invitational. I want to feel that rush of winning it all again. Thank you for the motivation.
With love,
Hanjo
